Geometry-Based UAV MIMO Channel Modeling and Pattern Optimization for Multimode Antennas

Improving safety is of general interest in aviation. Flight transponders used collision avoidance systems advise pilots with information potential collisions and resolutions. Some are capable transmitting the instantaneous position vehicle which might be turned off. To prevent autonomous flights from collisions, transponder signals shall to estimate direction-of-arrival (DoA). Recently, multimode antennas have been investigated for communication localization purposes. Multimode provide several orthogonal ports on a single radiator surface. This leads reduction space weight, airborne applications. perform DoA estimation as well communication, suitable channel model required. In this contribution, fulfilling requirements both multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) proposed. relies manifold matrix representation UAV under consideration. The derived description use-case an optimization achieve close omnidirectional radiation pattern. Therefore, different functions their performance compared. results using calculated verified by measurements taken antenna measurement chamber.
